How to get rid of cellulite for good

Cellulite is an incredibly common condition that appears as a bumpy and dimpled appearance on the skin (and is more commonly seen in women than in men). Even though it is something that is completely harmless, cellulite is something that can cause severe issues with your own body image, self-esteem, and confidence.

Whilst exercise, weight loss and creams or lotions that are marketed as a treatment method for cellulite can work for some people, this is not a guaranteed way to fight the appearance of cellulite and won’t work everyone. Thankfully there is a way of fighting cellulite that has a proven track record and a high success rate, this is the BTL X-wave.

Cellulite

How does cellulite form?

Unfortunately, we don’t really know too much detail on what exactly causes cellulite, although we do know what it is. Cellulite is something beneath the skin that involves the fibrous cords that connect the skin to the muscle that lies underneath, and the fat that is stored between these fibers. As more and more fat cells start to accumulate, they push up against the skin while the fibrous cords work against them to keep the skin tethered to the muscle, this is what creates the bumpy or dimpled appearance.

Based on that alone, it would be simple to assume that cellulite affects people who are overweight more than it affects those who aren’t but it can affect anyone, regardless of their physical fitness and even those who exercise around the clock can suffer from it.

Why is cellulite more common in women than it is in men?

There are a few reasons for this, the first of which being the way in which people of different genders carry their weight and store fat. Men tend to carry their weight around the lower abdomen whereas women tend to carry their weight around their thighs, hips, and buttocks – which unfortunately are the most common areas for cellulite to form.

A person’s genes also play a big role in the formation of cellulite and one reason is related to the way in which the fibrous cords beneath the skin hold the skin and muscle together. In men, the cords tend to be arranged in a continuous diagonal or criss cross pattern throughout the skin. In women, the cords are vertical, and this is what creates regular and repeating box shaped compartments that can store the fatty deposits, leading to a more visible appearance.

Another reason behind this is hormones, more specifically estrogen and testosterone. Estrogen, the female reproductive hormone, plays a huge role in regulating body fat in addition to everything else that it does. This is what causes fat cells to build up in specific areas that are prone to cellulite and as we touched on earlier, causes this to be more prevalent in women. Estrogen also plays a part in how the body maintains fat levels as well and during menopause (when the estrogen levels within the body gradually begin to decline), gaining weight becomes much easier for women which can also affect this appearance. Testosterone, the male reproductive hormone, does the opposite, and it plays a role in helping the body to burn fat, which is why men tend to be affected much less than women are.

What is the BTL X-wave?

The BTL X-wave system is a specialized device that is used to improve several different skin problems using sound waves, including fighting the appearance of cellulite. The sound waves that are created by the machine trigger vibrations beneath the skin that can penetrate deep into the underlying tissue. These vibrations break up the fatty tissue that causes the cellulite deposits to occur and works to improve lymphatic drainage at the same time, which together results in the reduction of fat cells in the treated area. They also aid the production of collagen, which gives you skin that looks smoother, healthier, and younger (helping to further reduce the dimpled and bumpy appearance). The sound waves provided by the BTL X-wave also provide a few other benefits to the treated area other than just fighting the appearance of cellulite, such as boosting the blood flow and circulation within the treated area.

X-wave treatment for cellulite
How many X-wave treatments will I need to get rid of my cellulite?

This is one that is completely impossible to answer without undergoing a consultation, as it depends entirely on the individual patient, the area of their body that is to be treated and the level of cellulite that is present within the area.

During a consultation, your aesthetician will be able to sit down with you and determine the exact number of treatments that you will need to achieve the results that you are looking for, as well as setting realistic limits of what is achievable. There’s nothing worse, especially when it comes to your own body, of being promised that it will look a certain way and then achieving results that don’t match up to your expectations. This can have the opposite effect to what is desired and cause even more self-esteem problems than before.

The good news however is, due to the way that the X-wave treatment itself works, it is entirely possible to see some form of noticeable result after just one session. Whether that’s a decrease in the visibility of the cellulite itself or a smoother feel to the skin, many of our clients report that they have noticed some results right away.
