Scar Reduction Treatment

A scar is a natural part of the healing process of your body, and while most scars will fade over time, they never completely disappear. More often than not, a scar forms as a result of an accident, disease, surgery or skin condition like acne.

A scar forms when the dermis becomes damaged, and the body reacts by stimulating the production of new collagen fibers to repair the damage which results in a scar. This scar tissue has a different texture to the surrounding skin, and can range from a flat and pale patch through to a raised bumpy area.

Scar treatment

What can reduce the appearance of scars?

The BTL X-Wave system is able to treat a range of different skin conditions, but the ability to treat the appearance of scarring is one of the best capabilities. Utilising a range of different acoustic wave pulses, the BTL X-Wave triggers vibrations deep within the tissues found within the skin, causing them to relax which results in an improved appearance and texture to the surface of the skin. The vibrations that are produced are also responsible for enhancing the circulation and blood flow in the targeted area, helping in the healing and treatment of the area.

Another important boost is that the BTL X-Wave aids with the collagen production in a targeted area, which can help to aid the appearance of scarring (even knowing that they are produced by collagen in the first place). Along with elastin, collagen is a protein found within the skin and it helps to give the skin a youthful appearance and the stimulation of its production can help the skin around the scar tissue.

Scar tissue

Different types of scars:

A scar can range from a fine line across the skin, to a pitted hole (commonly associated with acne) or even an overgrowth of tissue.

Fine line scars

A minor wound like a cut or scrape tends to heal to have a raised line on the surface of the skin, which fades and flattens over time.

Keloid scars

Keloid scarring occurs when there is an overgrowth of tissue associated with too much collagen being produced at the wound site, but the scar tends to keep growing after the wound has healed.

Hypertrophic scars

Hypertrophic scars are produced in the same way that a keloid scar is produced, except the difference is that the scar doesn’t continue to grow after the wound has healed.

Pitted scars

Scars that are caused by certain skin conditions, like acne or chickenpox, can lead to a sunken or pitted scar. They can also form as the result of an injury or underlying issue that causes a loss of underlying tissue.

Scar contractures

This form of scarring is a bit different and happens when the skin “shrinks”, typically associated with burns.
