For millions of people around the world, wanting to reduce the amount of fat that they have on their body is something that they will think about and possibly even search for daily. Seeing photos in magazines and news articles or plastered across every screen on social media, the pressures to always look perfect are pushed onto people in modern society. That pressure starts to push even more onto your lifestyle around this time of year with people trying to do everything they can to get their body ready for the summer and those perfect beach selfies.
Even if you’re working your hardest to drop those last few pounds, keeping up with your diet and fighting off cravings, and exercising routinely to see results, it doesn’t always come off in the right places and leaves you with stubborn pockets of fat. These stubborn areas tend to be quite common across all people like the thighs, hips, upper arms and under the chin, and can be very difficult to get rid of with exercise and diet alone. That’s where a non-surgical fat reduction treatment could be perfect for you.
Non-surgical body contouring treatments have been available for a number of years now and have rapidly become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures around the world, and it’s easy to see why. Before they came around, liposuction was the main contender for body contouring and reducing fat and the big problem with that is simply that it is a major surgical procedure, with high costs, risk and downtime that come as part of the package. While it’s still a big player in the body contouring world, technological advances have allowed non-surgical treatments to start to steal some of the limelight.
There are a number of options available on the market, but two of the best are Exilis, which uses a combination of radiofrequency and ultrasound energy, and CoolSculpting, which freezes the fat cells. The question though is what is the difference between them and which of the two is better for fat reduction in those stubborn areas? Well, for starters it’s literally hot and cold which makes them different.
CoolSculpting is a procedure based on freezing fat cells to destroy them, all down to the principle that fat cells can freeze much quicker than the cells that surround them. What this means is that if you apply enough cold energy onto a targeted area of the body, you can effectively freeze and destroy the fat cells whilst, other than making it a bit cold, having no effect on any of the surrounding tissues. Over the course of a few weeks, your body reabsorbs the destroyed fat cells and you can see a noticeable difference as the excess stubborn fat starts to disappear.
Exilis is one of the newer treatments on the block and it sists at the other end of the spectrum. Instead of focusing on using the cold to destroy the fat cells, it uses a combination of radiofrequency (RF) and ultrasound energies to cause a thermal reaction within the skin. By focusing this energy at specific depths beneath the skin, Exilis can be used to target key problem areas. When fat cells are targeted with the Exilis treatment, they become “metabolically active” which causes them to split open and the fat spills out of them, your body then flushes this excess fat out of the system using natural methods. In basic terms, it literally uses heat to melt fat cells so that your body can get rid of them. But, that’s not all, the Exilis treatment also stimulates the production of new collagen beneath the skin, resulting in both short term and long term skin tightening, giving you a completely new silhouette in combination with the body contouring effects.
That’s the key difference point between the two treatments, CoolSculpting is a very good treatment to get rid of stubborn built up fat but that’s all it is able to do, whereas the Exilis treatment is capable of removing fat cells and tightening the skin at the same time. Neither treatment is associated with having any downtime, and both will show incredible results when they do show through.
That’s a tricky question, and in theory it boils down to your individual needs and goals, but the Exilis treatment really just sneaks it based on what it’s capable of doing. Creating the perfect contour and silhouette is more than just reducing the amount of fat, it’s making sure that the skin looks right around it too.
