Will Shockwave therapy fix my foot pain?

It is time to fix your foot pain. Stop living each day with constant aches or sharp stabbing pains in your feet and your ankles; we have the treatment for you. Shockwave therapy. It is a non-invasive therapy which is highly recommended for the relief of plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, Bursitis and more.

Here’s the science.

A high-intensity acoustic wave is passed through your skin and into your body. The low-energy sound waves work by increasing the blood flow to the injured area, which then accelerates the body’s healing processes by promoting regeneration processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues. It allows you to return to sport or enjoy your days without the frustrating pain. Shockwave is used by lots of healthcare professionals, including podiatrists, physiotherapists and orthopaedics.

At your appointment

  • We examine, discuss, diagnose and recommend a treatment plan for you. If it includes Shockwave, we can often start treatment straight away.
  • No preparation from you is required; wear loose, comfortable clothes, and you can eat and drink as you normally would.
  • We get you positioned comfortably on our treatment couch.
  • Ultrasound gel is applied to the area. This may feel a bit cold; it helps the sound waves pass into your skin.
  • The device is pressed against your skin.
  • The treatment takes a few minutes.
  • You will be able to hear it.
  • Some people do find the treatment uncomfortable. We will be checking with you all the time about how it feels. If you are in pain, we will adjust the treatment.
  • Many of our patients report an immediate decrease in their pain after treatment.
  • You may find the area is sore and bruised after the treatment, but this will only last a couple of days.
  • A course of treatments will be recommended, usually four sessions, one to two weeks apart.
Shockwave therapy

Tom has been using shockwave to deal with Plantar Fasciitis for about eight years with great success for soft tissue injury, rehab, bursars, ligament/tendon issue, plantar plate tears, joint mobilisation, reduction of fluid build-up, to speed up the recovery during rehab. Foot and heel pain doesn’t only happen to sports people; there are a number of causes and conditions that we treat. If you are struggling from a chronic condition, are recently injured, or an old injury has flared up, book an appointment as we will be able to help.
