Sign UpWhether you’re planning a holiday, preparing for a big event, or simply wanting more control over your body’s timing, period delay medication can offer peace of mind and freedom — right when you need it most.
But as of May 2025, national guidelines have changed. And if you’ve previously accessed period delay tablets like norethisterone through your GP or the NHS, you may now find that option is no longer available.
Here’s what’s changed; and how you can still get safe, reliable access through private care at The Nantwich Clinic.
In May 2025, new guidance from NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) was implemented across the NHS.
Under these updated recommendations, period delay medication is no longer routinely prescribed on the NHS for non-medical reasons; such as travel, special occasions, or convenience.
This means that even if you’ve been given these medications before via your GP, you will now need to seek private care to access them.
Menstrual cycles are a natural part of life, but they don’t always align with everything else going on. Whether you’re heading on a beach holiday, attending a wedding, competing in a sporting event, or simply want to feel your best during a big week – being able to delay your period can offer real relief and flexibility.
Norethisterone is one of the most commonly used options. Taken a few days before your expected period, it works by maintaining hormone levels to temporarily delay bleeding – safely and effectively, under the right guidance.
At The Nantwich Clinic, we believe women should have easy, safe access to care that supports their lifestyle – without long waits or unnecessary barriers.
You can now book a private appointment with one of our clinicians to discuss period delay medication, including:
Appointments are confidential, judgement-free, and often available at short notice – so you can get the care you need, when you need it.
To give the medication time to work properly, we recommend booking your appointment at least 7–10 days before your period is due. The earlier we can chat with you, the better we can support you.
This small, simple option can make a big difference to how you feel — especially when your plans don’t leave room for discomfort or disruption.
If you’re affected by the recent changes in NHS prescribing or simply want clear, compassionate advice, we’re here to help.
